Coaches Corner: “Climbing the High-Performance Ladder One Step at A Time”

The team met on Wednesday evening in the IMA to go through a strategy presentation with the coaching and medical staff. Newly recruited Head Coach, Ray Keane, then took the players through a series of classroom morale building exercises before hitting the field on Thursday. The players also completed a skills self-assessment exercise which will be used by staff to monitor, track and communicate development “work on” needs as we go through the season.  Thursday’s session was effectively Day 1 of a pre-season mini camp which included Bronco fitness testing and various micro skills assessments. This effectively gave the staff a baseline for the conditioning work done by the players during the summer. Day 2 saw the team double down on unit skills, including passing and contact skills. The players were also challenged with the introduction of the concept of “chaos”. Head Coach Keane said “ I was particularly impressed with the positive and attentive attitude the group brought to the session; they endured some pain together through the testing and both the energy & effort put in to learn and improve was self-evident. As we go into next week, we will see additional players returning to campus and introduce more of our processes and playing system”.

First up for the Husky’s is an away trip to scrimmage with Trinity Western University (TWU) on Saturday Sept 26^th. “We will get a chance to take a deeper, competitive look at the players in this controlled scrimmage. My thanks to Andy and the coaching staff at TWU for facilitating this pre-season scrimmage,” said Keane.
