The Huskies faced a tough challenge Saturday against the CWU Wildcats, missing several key starters in both the forwards and backs. With limited depth and experience, the team had a difficult task against a strong and physical CWU side.

Central got off to an early start with an unconverted try in the fourth minute, but the Huskies quickly responded with a converted try, giving them their only lead of the game. The UW backs put in a solid performance, applying pressure on CWU’s experienced #10, executing overlaps, making dominant tackles, and generating momentum-changing carries. However, 30 mph winds made territory control and ball retention difficult, which ultimately played in CWU’s favor.

By halftime, CWU had built a commanding lead, 45-12. While the wind gave the Wildcats an advantage, many Huskies errors were exploited, including missed tackles and the challenge of matching CWU’s physicality.

In the second half, the Huskies held CWU to 18 points, while scoring 7 themselves, but were unable to close the gap.

Final Score: UW 19 – CWU 62

Looking ahead, the Huskies will use the upcoming Spring Break for a few training sessions and an on-campus recruiting push. The team will also compete in two sevens tournaments after the break, while preparing for the Curtain Raiser match against CWU at Starfire on April 24th.
