UW took 15 players to Tacoma this weekend for the University of Puget Sound seven's tournament. We've trained approximately 2 hours total for sevens this season, meaning there was a heavy reliance on athleticism and intuition.

In pool play we faced a physical Western Oregon team, and a WSU team out for Husky blood. Both have been training for sevens playing under a different schedule where they transition from 15's to 7's much earlier than we do.

Both teams scored first against UW, but things change quickly, and despite a yellow card in each game, UW came away with narrow wins. It's worth noting that both WOU and WSU play more sevens, and had a few very handy sevens players. Through defensive discipline the Dawgs were able to gain the upper hand.

UW 14 - WOU 12

UW 12 - WSU 10

This put UW as top seed in pool A to face Gonzaga, the 2nd seed of pool B. The Dawgs continued to build and learn throughout the day. Except for a single miscue on defense allowing for a Gonzaga try, everything in the semi final went UWs way, with the Huskies finishing 38-7.

The final was a different story. WSU won their semi final game as well, and it was an Apple Cup rematch. WSU's skill and sevens experience took them to an early lead

UW 0 - WSU 14.

The Huskies clawed their way back to 14-14. It became a back and forth game from here, 14-21, then 19-21. WSU scored again with a minute or so left, 19-28. In the final moments of the game, the Dawgs scored one final try but fell short of the win. The Huskies played well and showed their development across the four matches of the day, which is a promising first 2026 sevens appearance.

Tournament Final: UW 26 - WSU 28

This week UW prepares to host Oregon State at home. After an away loss to OSU in the fall, the Dawgs will be eager to make a statement coming off our California tour and a narrow loss last week to Oregon. Come out and support - this is our final true home game of the season, IMA field at 1pm this Saturday, Feb. 21.
