Match Report: Trinity Western University
UW Rugby opened their season with a hard-fought match against Trinity Western University.

For their exhibition opener, the Dawgs traveled north to Langley, BC, to take on a familiar and always formidable opponent, Trinity Western University. The first half saw UW challenged in their exit play from the 22, but the team displayed impressive resilience with sustained goal-line defense under heavy pressure. The halftime score stood at UW 5 – TWU 17, a reflection of both the Dawgs’ grit and TWU’s ability to capitalize on key opportunities.
In the second half, the pace quickened as TWU’s dangerous wings began to find space on the edges. Fatigue and penalties began to take a toll on the Dawgs’ wide defense, allowing TWU to extend their lead with several tries. Still, UW continued to fight hard and find their way to the try zone. Freshman Rylan Reinebach, from Camas, WA, earned his first cap, scoring his first try and being named Man of the Match for his strong performance as a powerful loose forward.
Other try scorers for the Huskies included Vaea Tangitau, Style Siva-Tu’u (2), and Josef “Pepi” Dostal (2). The Dawgs showed heart until the final whistle, capping the match with the last score of the game. The final result was UW 34 – TWU 55, a promising performance that sets the stage for continued growth as the season progresses.
Next week we look forward to an equally challenging opponent in exhibition match #2 vs WWU, which will be played at the DeWilde Rugby and Polo grounds in Ferndale, WA. Format as follows, kicking off at 1PM Saturday:
30 mins: 1st XV
