Support Husky Rugby’s California Tour
UW Rugby will embark on its first California tour since 2022 this January, training with St. Mary’s College and competing against top out-of-state opponents, with a fundraising initiative launched to cover travel, lodging, and team expenses.

We’re excited to share that UW Rugby will be heading to California this January for our first CA tour since 2022. Time to get some sun and reprieve from the gray Seattle winter! Explore the Bay Area and start the winter in good spirits with competitive matchups. Think back to your rugby tours – these trips aren’t just about rugby – they’re about growth, bonding, and building memories that last far beyond the pitch and playing days.
Goals for the California Classroom:
- Train with and learn from a top-tier rugby program. St. Mary’s College, Coach Nick Wallace’s alma mater, has won nationals 4 times, most recently in 2024. Each visit to a Top 10 rugby team is an opportunity for takeaways – skills, coaching, facilities and operations, culture-building, and developing relationships are all part of the touring experience.
- Test ourselves against good out-of-state competition and kickstart our Winter/Spring season. We’ve selected teams that rank slightly above us or play in a higher division for each of our 1st and 2nd XVs.
- Strengthen our team culture and camaraderie. More than anything, tours like this build stronger bonds within the team. The more experiences we share, the more we play for each other.
Our itinerary is a strong one, with four fixtures lined up:
- Tue 1/23: Combined Training with St. Mary’s College
- Wed 1/24: Mixed 1st XV vs UC Santa Cruz
- Thu 1/25: Mixed 2nd XV vs Stanford or UC San Francisco (TBD)
- Sat 1/27: Double Header (true 1st and 2nd XV) vs San Jose State University
To make this trip possible, we’ve set a fundraising goal of $3,000, and we’re asking our alumni to help us get there. Whether you give a little or a lot, your support will directly go toward travel, lodging, and team costs. We’d like to recognize donors on tour – if there’s something you’d like to donate to directly, we’ll announce it when we have that meal, experience, or whatever you put it towards.
For those of you who’ve experienced a tour, you know how formative these trips can be—how they challenge players, bring teams closer, and create lifelong memories.
Thank you for continuing to be part of the Husky Rugby family. Together, we can give our players the opportunity to grow, compete, and represent UW with pride.
