This week we've focused on mindset - the players have had a "winning" mindset this season, which is positive, but seems to have put pressure on the outcome. Calling "WIN" in their pre-game huddle was nixed this week, instead changing it to mindsets: "WORK", "PRESSURE", etc. We can hang with any team in this conference for periods of the game, but we've cracked under pressure. Objectives this week are to "reset" in chaos, and "win the next 5 minutes". We've reintroduced a "zero-zero" mindset. Whether ahead or behind, the score remains zero-zero. If we focus on our mindset and the next job instead of the outcome, the score will take care of itself.
Lots of film analysis and specific training from last week should correct errors and deliver better responses to cheap shots, trash talk, and referee calls (right or wrong).
We expect a tough fight - Oregon bested WWU last month. With our starting flyhalf down with a torn meniscus at training, we'll be bringing in Freshman flyhalf Michael Bruin, back from injury. It's exciting times as this group continues to build and grow, and we've had far less attrition this year than in the past.
Behind the curtain, today is the Freshman Application for Fall 2025. We have a number of strong applicants submitting today who will be on a list sent to the Director of Admissions for an application point or two. The future is brighter and brighter all the time. Come out and watch your Dawgs tomorrow, and chat with players after the match.
