On the Rise: Husky Rugby Climbs the National Rankings
In just three seasons, the University of Washington Husky Rugby team has climbed from a national ranking of #105 to an impressive #22 for the 2024–2025 season. Fueled by strong leadership, culture-driven growth, and unwavering commitment, the program’s rapid rise is a testament to the hard work of its players, coaches, and supporters — and it’s only the beginning.

The rise of the Husky Rugby program has been nothing short of impressive, going from an overlooked contender to a rising force on the national stage. This year, the program celebrates a major milestone: a #22 national ranking for the 2024–2025 season. Goff Rugby Report
The achievement is especially meaningful when you consider how far the program has come. In the 2022–2023 season, the Huskies were ranked #105 in the nation — a team with grit, but little national recognition. Just a year later, the squad climbed to #54, turning heads with improved performance, tighter systems, and a renewed focus on culture and consistency. Now, in 2024–2025, the team sits proudly at #22, firmly established among the top collegiate rugby programs in the country.
“This ranking is a reflection of what happens when you invest in the right things — hard work, accountability, and the people around you,” said Head Coach, Will Wheaton, who has helped guide the team through this transformative period. "Our Gold Standards apply to how we carry ourselves on and off the field: Be Early, Be Connected, Be Tough. Through these, accountability, commitment, camaraderie, and professionalism are built. We coaches recognize that success is not based on rankings, but on developing character and better people. On-field results are an outcome that will always be secondary to inspiring individuals to reach their potential."
The climb has been fueled by strong recruiting classes, growing alumni support, and a clear commitment to long-term development. Off the pitch, the team has also strengthened its visibility through social media, community events, and growing partnerships with local rugby supporters.
While there’s still plenty of work ahead, the Huskies’ rise into the top 25 is a signal to the rest of the rugby world: Washington is building something special — and the Pack is just getting started.
