Curtain Raiser Match Preview: Oregon State University
As we cap a strong season, and send our seniors off with a showcase game at Starfire, we also consider the legacy our players are leaving behind.

It’s an exciting day for the players, seniors, alumni, and parents!
As we cap a strong season, and send our seniors off with a showcase game at Starfire, we also consider the legacy our players are leaving behind. The foundation laid by alumni has been reinforced by our senior players, who enter a new chapter of their lives. The players understand the importance of leaving the jersey in a better place. Alumni in the stands will look on as their number is worn by a deserving young man on the field, many of whom will wear the jersey for the last time today.
Earning a “W” would be great, of course, and the Huskies are confident going into this game. Having beaten OSU twice this season in conference games, this exhibition is about love of the game, honoring our seniors, and inducting them into the alumni. Today is marked by transition and celebration.
Among our starting seniors and study abroad students, a few have never played first XV rugby, others have seen only minutes. We players and coaches fully back those players to step up, and make an impact. Our extended roster will allow us to transition ceremonially through the game, bringing on more returning players and freshmen, as seniors pass the torch. As I write this I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the young men who are playing their last game in the Purple and Gold, for the opportunity to have coached them, and for the heart they have put into this club. This is your time - Go Dawgs!
