Match Recap: UW at Oregon State University
A match recap on the 2 full 15s teams that traveled down to Oregon State for a rugby match

This past weekend we took two full UW teams down to Oregon State, despite a handful of injuries and more than 10 students with exam conflicts on Saturday. It's difficult to ensure our best team is always available, but as coach I take responsibility for not blocking this date off our schedule.
It was a beautiful day, with a few short stretches of driving rain. UW was prepared for a tough game without starting our flyhalf, inside and outside centers. Quickly exposed, this would be our weakness.
OSU dotted down within 4 minutes of kickoff with a fast and powerful backline. The Dawgs responded, with flanker Brian Cain scoring his first of two tries. Brian has been a standout player this year, throws our lineouts, and holds our scoring record. Sebastian Sosa, first-year player and fullback, converted both tries, but as our last line of defense, Sosa was faced with many breakaways through our inside backs, and couldn't stop them all. Halftime score: UW 14 - 36 OSU.
Our forwards dominated in lineouts and scrums. Very few defensive weaknesses were exposed in the middle of the field. Our second-half try scorers were our two props, David Moody and Benjamin Carney, well-deserved for their hard work throughout the game. Final Score: UW 24 - 57 OSU.
Our B-side took the field with 7 players on debut. Although OSU played some of their strongest first-side players (their starting fly-half scored two of their tries), we had the personnel to play none of ours. Great promise was shown by 3 first-time freshmen players: #8 Dillon Tran, #6 Vince Tran, and #10 Jack Efrusy, who made both conversions. Final B-side Score: UW 14 - 26 OSU.
The Huskies finish their exams this week and then into 7s for the remainder of the Spring quarter. Check our schedule for fixtures.
